When naturalist Joseph Banks saw Mt Taranaki from the deck of Captain Cook's 'Endeavour' he wrote, "Certainly the noblest hill I have ever seen". Some hill!

The majestic Mt Taranaki   At 2500 metres the almost perfect volcanic cone dominates the region with a singular majestic presence.

The mountain also provides a rich and fertile soil, making the region a paradise for gardeners. Many splendid gardens are open to visitors all year round. With spring comes Taranaki's famous Rhododendron Festival. over 100 colourful gardens can be visited together with a host of special gardening events.
For the slightly more active, Taranaki offers world-class wave and wind surfing, as well as family fun horse riding, canoeing, rafting, and jetboat thrills.
