DAY
4 Queenstown
(no driving)
Queenstown has to be the action capital of
New Zealand. There is such a huge range of things to do in Queenstown
that you will want to stay the whole day here.
DAY 5
Queenstown to Fox Glacier
(4 hours drive)
Go via spectacular Haast
Pass to Fox Glacier. There are lots of opportunity for short walks off
the road. The walks are all well sign-posted, so look for them,
particularly between Makarora and Haast township. This piece of road
is particularly spectacular if it is raining.
DAY 6
Fox Glacier to Christchurch
(7 hours drive/ 3 hours with train option)
Get an early start to Lake Mtheson
to watch the sun come up over Mt Cook - it is a beautiful walk, even
if you miss the sunrise. Don't miss a trip up to the glacier - take a
half day walk, a helihike, or a short overflight depending on time and
inclination. Head North to Kumara Juction and then East over the
Arthurs Pass and down into Christchurch, or if you prefer, be in
Greymouth in time to take the Tranz Alpine back to Christchurch.
